Russell Cooke

Government Chief Privacy Officer (GCPO), New Zealand Government

Russell is the Government Chief Privacy Officer. He leads an all-of-government approach to privacy, supporting public sector privacy practice.

Russell joined the Department of Internal Affairs in late 2014, leading the team that manages strategic relationships between the Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) and government agencies.

Before this, Russell was the Chief Information Officer at New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA), which manages the New Zealand Qualifications Framework and administers the secondary school assessment system, including running the annual National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) and Scholarship examinations processes. Russell was involved with the establishment of NZQA’s Future State strategy.
