Dr Carlene Mahoney

Director, Mahoney Social Media Security Pty Ltd & Adjunct Lecturer, Charles Sturt University

Dr Carlene Mahoney has over 20 years’ experience working in law enforcement
specialising in social media governance, policy development, cyber security, mental health, child protection and organised crime.  Carlene also holds the position as an adjunct lecturer with the Terrorism and Security Studies, Charles Sturt University in Canberra. Carlene is currently undertaking a Masters in Terrorism, researching the complex social, political and international context of terrorism and contemporary security related issues. 

Carlene’s recent doctoral studies included the interpretation of NSW Police Force development and implementation of policies, the lessons learnt from the use of social media and the training developed to minimise the risks to the agencies security and reputation. Carlene has provided national recommendations and best practice for law enforcement agencies using social media in both personal and private settings.

Carlene has consulted and operated around the world, with many law enforcement agencies, government bodies, non-government organisations, sporting associations, social media service providers, academia and education departments. 

Including the NSW Police Force, Victoria Police Force, eSafety Commissioner, The Respect Campaign, Revenue NSW, The National Board of the Australian Taxation Commissioners, Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance, Australian Dance Festival, Save the Souls in India, Hyderabad Police Academy, India, The Australian Embassy Colombia and the National Cyber Centre, Colombia.

Dr Carlene Mahoney's experience provides great insight into the social media management frameworks that are essential to limit corporate liabilities and address foreseeable vulnerabilities.
