iappANZ 2018 Summit

1 - 2 November 2018

Both Workshops

Workshop with Dr Fiona Tweedie - The Balancing Act: Enabling Openness While Protecting Privacy

Increasingly, organisations are recognising the value of being able to share information confidently internally and publish it externally. The Australian Government's response to the Productivity Commission's report into data use and availability and the establishment of the Office of the National Data Commissioner mean that businesses and Australian Government agencies are going to be encourages and expected publish more data.

However, as the re-identification of Medicare data by researchers in 2017 demonstrated, protecting privacy when publishing data is not straightforward.

This workshop will explore ways of classifying data according to its sensitivity and ways in which high-value datasets could be de-identified for publication. It will include hands-on exercises and case-studies involving real datasets.

Workshop with Professor David Lacey - The regulation and reality: Pragmatic approaches and pitfalls for data breach responders

As Australia and New Zealand’s only not-for-profit charity that provides critical support for individuals confronting identity and cyber security concerns, David and his team have seen first-hand the impact that an organisation’s data breach response can have on impacted individuals as well as the company itself.

In this workshop you will gain practical and unique insights and knowledge that you can apply to your own data breach response plans and processes.

Dave has chosen to donate his payment for the workshop to IDCare’s charitable activities.
